Plans Underway for the Growth of Holy Rosary Burlington's School Garden
The Holy Rosary school community in Burlington is thrilled to continue this project together, growing and learning to become stewards of the earth!

Developed in the spring of 2017, the garden at Holy Rosary Catholic Elementary School in Burlington continues to grow and flourish, through the collaborative efforts of students, staff, parents and members of the community!

With the support from the Burlington Seed Foundation, students and staff at Holy Rosary have been involved in building the garden beds, planting seeds, watering the garden, and harvesting the herbs and vegetables that were grown over the spring and summer.

Composed of six raised beds growing tomatoes, lettuce, basil, parsley, green onion, green peas, and sunflowers, students are able to tend to the garden and watch the seeds grow into herbs and vegetables. At the school's recent curriculum night, students offered what they harvested from the garden to their families, free of charge. It was a spectacular night to present the fruits of their labor!

What's Happening in the School Garden This Year?

  • Holy Rosary will be expanding the school garden for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • Teachers will incorporate the garden into their math, science, health, social studies, and art classes.
  • Educational and fun, hands-on activities will be implemented in lessons, to help students learn about healthy eating and healthy lifestyles.
  • Teachers have volunteered to have their classes participate in garden activities over the winter months and early spring, to prepare the transfer of herbs and vegetables into the garden for the spring of 2018.
