HCDSB Seeking Feedback from Catholic Ratepayers

Trustees on the Halton Catholic District School Board are seeking stakeholder input on the current distribution of Catholic school trustees across Halton Region.

The Halton Catholic District School Board is allocated a maximum of nine (9) school board trustees. The 9 trustees are distributed based on ratepayer population across each of the municipalities served by the HCDSB – Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, and Oakville.

At the Regular Board Meeting held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, the Board of Trustees reviewed the report on trustee distribution and considered the following:

  • The number of trustees that should represent each municipality (Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton, and Oakville).
  • Whether trustees should represent each municipality ‘by ward’ (each trustee within a municipality representing a designated section of the municipality), or ‘at large’ (all trustees within a municipality representing the whole municipality).
During this discussion, trustees decided they would like to seek feedback on these two matters from our stakeholders.

Complete the Online Survey:

All Catholic ratepayers in Halton are invited to complete an online survey at:

The survey will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018. All feedback received will be shared with the Board of Trustees at the Regular Meeting on March 20, 2018.

Quick Facts:

  • Before each election, all school boards in Ontario must determine how they will distribute their allocation of trustees across their area of jurisdiction.
  • This information is then submitted to the Ministry of Education, to the election clerks for all municipalities within the board’s jurisdiction, and to all other school boards sharing jurisdiction.
