School Climate Surveys

Every two years we undertake a school climate survey for students, parents, and teachers. The school climate survey is required by the Ministry of Education, as part of the Safe Schools initiative. The information gathered is used to help us make sure that our schools are safe and welcoming so that students can feel comfortable enough to learn.

Student Survey

From October 5 through October 16, 2017, all grades 4 to 12 students were able to participate in the school climate survey.

The survey was developed by The Learning Bar, and it will be administered through the OurSCHOOL platform, formerly called Tell Them From Me.

About the Student Survey

OurSCHOOL is an online survey that helps teachers and principals learn about students’ feelings towards their school and their thoughts for improving their school environment. The survey is not a test. There are no right or wrong answers. The survey is simply a way for students to have their voices heard, and the survey is completely voluntary and anonymous.

When will the Student Survey be Available?

The OurSchool student survey opened on October 5, 2017, and closed for submissions on November 16, 2017. Thank you to all of our students for participating and providing their feedback!

What Does the Student Survey Measure?

The student survey will involve measurement that includes, but is not limited to:

  • Social/Emotional Outcomes (e.g. social engagement, emotional health);
  • Physical Health Outcomes (e.g. risky behaviours);
  • Drivers of Student Outcomes (e.g. school context, classroom context).

For more information about the OurSchool student survey, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions. If you would like more information about the survey, please contact your school principal directly.

Parent and Teacher Surveys

All parents and teachers across the Halton Catholic District School board will have an opportunity to participate in a similar survey, later in the school year. The survey will be completely voluntary and anonymous. Details will follow at a later date.

Next Steps:

The data collected in the OurSCHOOL Surveys will be used to:

  • Enhance our understanding of the diverse needs of our students and school communities;
  • Monitor our strategic planning priorities and support future planning at both the Board and school levels;
  • Monitor school culture and climate to support the ongoing development and implementation of Safe Schools action plans.
